The Ski Mountaineering World Cup 2021/2022 made its season debut in Ponte di Legno, Italy last night with Sprint Race. The course, in the amphitheatre of illuminated ski slopes overlooking Pontedilegno-Tonale, proved spectacular thanks to the excellent design of the track by the volunteers of the Adamello Ski Team organising committee, under the watchful eye of the ISMF Referees.

18 different countries took part in the event which kicked off, as scheduled, in mid-afternoon with the U20 category, followed by Senior Men and Women. Swiss speed specialist Arno Lietha lived up to expectations and won the Senior event, ahead of Hans-Inge Klette (NOR) and Thibault Anselmet (FRA). The Senior Women's final round was won, somewhat surprisingly, by Emily Harrop from France who nailed her first World Cup success, ahead of her compatriot Léna Bonnel and Giulia Murada from Italy.

The programme of the first weekend of the WÜRTH MODYF ISMF World Cup continues this afternoon with the Vertical race, starting at 14:30. Saturday will be a rest day, used to check the race course prior to Sunday’s grand finale, the Individual race, which will take place at Passo Tonale and the Presena glacier starting from 9.30 am.
