Umbrellas open up and the Lead Final is about to start... Yes, because after two days of beautiful sunshine this what the weather gods have prepared for this evening. Oh well, we'll need a little patience (a fair bit to tell the truth), and all of a sudden the Climbing Stadium is filled with... open umbrellas. Up for grabs tonight is the most classic competition, the one with the rope. 8 female athletes and 9 athletes are in the line-up.

In the women's competition are three that qualified for this last round made it all the way from the Open: Mathilde Becerra (Fra), Dinara Fakhritdinova (Rus) and Claudia Ghisolfi (Ita). All three have qualified, tied in 7th, after the Semifinal onsight round. In the men's comp, those who made it all the way from the start are Italy's Francesco Vettorata, Valeriy Kryukov from the Ukraine, Urban Primozic from Slovenia and Loïc Timmermans from Belgium.

The current leaders are 23-year-old Austrian Jakob Schubert (aka "the machine") and France's talented 20-year-old Hélène Janicot. They both earnt this just a few hours ago (while the sun was still shining) by climbing higher than everyone else, almost to the top of the Semi-final "on-sight" route. Hot on their heels were Canada's Sean McColl and Japan's Sachi Amma, two of the strongest Lead climbers. Those who will attempt to steal first place from the Frenchwoman are 20-year-old Austrian Magdalena Röck and Slovenia's Mina Markovic, the 2013 winner.
