Rock Master Festival Day 1: qualification IFSC World Cup Lead
It’s been a long day today at the Arco Climbing Stadium for the 56 female athletes and 72 male athletes competing in the first round of the 5th stage of the IFSC Lead Climbing World Cup that inaugurated the 30th Rock Master. As usual, the athletes had to deal with two qualifying routes, and as usual 26 places were up for grabs. Everyone tried to climb the very best, aiming for the tops which would guarantee a place in the next round.
Only the strongest managed to earn maximum points and clip both chains. Seven women achieved this: Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret who leads the provisional 2016 World Cup ranking, her teammate and last year’s World Cup winner Mina Markovic, France’s Julia Chanourdie, Austria’s Katharina Posch and Magdalena Röck, Belgium’s Anak Verhoeven and the defending World Champion Korea’s Jain Kim.
The men’s competition was dominated, with twin tops, by 9 athletes: Italy’s Stefano Ghisolfi, Russia’s Dmitrii Fakiryanov, Spain’s Ramón Julian Puigblanque, Switzerland's Sascha Lehmann, Adam Ondra from the Czech Republic, Urban Primozic from Slovenia and current world cup leader Domen Skofic, Austria’s Jakob Schubert and France’s Gautier Supper.
