A surprise move and it's in the bag: after an almost 500km battle, yesterday the two Frenchmen Clement Latour and Antoine Girard pulled the trump Night Pass to jostle past the third man in the battle, Britain's Jon Chambers. This tactical choice proved decisive as the two managed to break free and reach the final Turnpoint at Peille in the middle of the night. The stopwatch stopped here officially, first for Clement Latour and then an hour later for Antoine Girard who therefore won silver and bronze respectively, while this morning they made the traditional flight to raft just off Monaco. After having been in the running for second place until yesterday afternoon, Chambers arrived at Peille at 16:44 today and his has been a truly tremendous competition with one regret only: not having pulled the Night Pass at the right time.

The Night Pass remains key today: rain and poor weather has been predicted in the near future. To reach the finish by noon on Friday many athletes have therefore decided to use the Night Pass tonight, including Martin Muller, Paul Guschlbauer, Max Fanderl and Mike Kung. It'll be a long walk!
