Patrouille des Glaciers cancelled, Michele Boscacci and Laetitia Roux win ski mountaineering World Cup 2016
Disappointing news comes from Switzerland where the Patrouille des Glaciers, the legendary ski mountaineering competition that every two years along the grueling Haute route between Zermatt and Verbier, has been cancelled While the first group competed between Tuesday night and Wednesday morining, the second group should have set off last night, but their start was postponed due to poor weather rolling in. A few hours ago the race organizers announced that due to snowfall and reduced visibility this second start was definitely canceled, since the safety of the 2481registered athletes could no longer be guaranteed.
The PDG was supposed to be the last stage of the Overall and Long Distance World Cups. The overall 2016 ranking is therefore based on the results achieved after the last race, namely the Tour du Rutour. Italy’s Michele Boscacci has won the Overall World Cup ahead of Spaniard Kilian Jornet Burgada and Germany’s Anton Palzer, while the women’s world cup was won by France’s Laetitia Roux ahead of her teammate Axelle Mollaret and Claudia Galicia Cotrina from Spain.
