European Youth Cup at Trieste - the results
The results of the European Youth Cup 2nd stage at Trieste, Italy
![]() Many of the most promising young sport climbers gathered in Trieste, Italy last weekend for the second stage of the European Youth Cup. 114 young athletes from 14 different countries competed in this exciting two-day event which, watched by enthusiastic spectators, proved to be a success. The competition formula was based on two routes (flash) on Saturday, which served to qualify 10 athletes for Sundays final. To the joy of the crowd and athletes alike, many topped out on their routes, resulting in various Superfinals in the three categories Junior ('81 - '82), Youth A ('83 - '84) and Youth B ('85 - '86). Junior In the Superfinal Tomas Mrazek from the Czech Republic placed first ahead of Gérôme Pouvreau from France. Unfortunately Gérôme Pouvreaus chances of winning the Superfinal were reduced as he had effectively climbed the Final twice, once to the last hold, which spun, and then once again to top out and qualify. Timo PreuÃler from Germany placed third. Emilie Pouget and Emilie Verdier from France placed first and second respectively, while Lucka Franko from Slovenia placed third. Youth A A Superfinal was necessary to determine a clear winner in the Youth A category, too. Cédric Lachat from Switzerland just beat his teammate Roman Felix, while Fabien Dugit from France placed third. Natalija Gros from Slovenia was the only athlete to top out and won the event ahead of Jenni Lavarda of Italy and Lisa Lage of America. Youth B Pavel Solansky from the Czech Republic placed first ahead Miha Skof from Slovenia and Daniel Winkler from Switzerland, second and third respecitvely. Tereza Kysilkova from the Czech Republic won the youngest event, ahead of Angela Eiter (Austria) and Jemma Powell (GB). The third stage of the European Youth Cup will take place on 16 and 17 June 2001 at Imst, Austria. The competition at Trieste, Italy (Photos arch. Dario Bovo) | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
