Dario Corradi has left us, Daone Ice Master World Cup cancelled
2011 has started in the worst possible way for the beautiful Italian Daone valley, which on 15 and 16 January should have hosted the second leg of the Ice Climbing World Cup 2011. Should have, would have wished to, but unfortunately Dario Corradi - a keen climber and one of the driving forces of the organising Committee - died yesterday of his injuries at the hospital in Trento after having been crushed by a bulldozer during preparations for the Valle di Daone stage of the Ice Climbing World Cup.
The tragic accident is simply beyond comprehension and Romolo Ghezzi, the chairman of the Organizing Committee, immediately cancelled the competition stating "There is no point in continuing. What happened is simply too big for all of us. Fate has taken an excellent Committee leader away from us, a truly special person, immensely helpful and with enormous dynamism, the first of numerous volunteers who each year devote day and night to making the Ice Master World Cup the most beautiful ice climbing competition in the world. This is a tragic death which leaves us in dismay. The Organising Committee and the whole community extends a heartfelt embrace to his young children Vanessa, Stefano, Greta, Damian, his wife Loretta, his mother, brother Aldo, sisters Rosa and Angela and all his relatives."
On behalf of the entire climbing community we would like to extend our deepest condolences to all relatives of Dario Corradi, to the volunteers of the Daone Ice World Cup Organising Committee, to the Valle di Daone and the Valle del Chiese.
