The best European climbers will compete in Campitello di Fassa (Trentino region Italy) in an attempt to win the Lead and Speed Climbing European Championship. The event will take place at the ADEL climbing wall, run by the Val di Fassa Climbing association that hosts the prestigious event from 29 June to 1 July 2017.

The Championships take place once every two years and this year international climbers will travel to Italy's Trentino region to take part. The "Val di Fassa Climbing" association was founded in Campitello in 1998, when the first indoor climbing wall was built. Since then, "Val di Fassa Climbing" has greatly developed and it has organised more that 85 competitions, including 2 Italian Championships, 28 Italian Climbing Cup competitions (lead, boulder and speed) and 3 Dry Tooling (ice climbing) competitions, as well as many event at youth level and a Paraclimbing World Cup event in 2016.

The organising committee immediately expressed its satisfaction for this important acknowledgement: "Thanks to the active involvement in the organisation of many events, the experience acquired over the time and the approval of the Italian Olympic Committee (C.O.N.I.) granted to the new climbing centre for International competitions, the "Val di Fassa Climbing" association, supported by the Italian Sport Climbing Federation (Federazione Arrampicata Sportiva Italiana - F.A.S.I.), has decided to move further and organise the European Championship 2017".

The three-day event in Trentino will be accompanied by several initiatives, aiming at offering fun and entertainment to participants and at involving an increasing number of people and raising their interest for this sport discipline.

The Dolomiti Summer Festival, open to all mountain-lovers, will celebrate its fourth year in 2017 and will involve alpine guides, MTB and Nordic Walking instructors and mid-mountain guides, who will accompany participants in fixed-rope routes, climbing courses, MTB tours and guided excursions in the most beautiful locations of Val di Fassa. A village will host the exhibitions of the best companies in the outdoor sector, with material testing, live music and gastronomic stands, at the presence of a great athlete who will entertain the public with his stories and achievements. On Sunday, visitors will have the opportunity of testing materials and climbing with some of the athletes taking part in the Championship. During the Lead and Speed Climbing European Championship there will also be the Dolomiti Walking Festival (at the "Ischia" sports centre), with the participation of numberless Nordic Walking lovers who will learn everything about this fascinating discipline.

On the 1st of July it will be the turn of "Dolomia", during the traditional meeting of Historical mountaineering groups of the Dolomites in Campitello di Fassa. The annual meeting will be held for the 11th time and it is hosted this year by the "Ciamorces de Fasha", the local alpine guide group. It is an important event for alpinists, alpine guides, hikers and for all those who deeply love the mountain.
