Bytchkov, Berger and Sdobnikova win IWC 2002
Harald Berger, Dimitri Bytchkov and Ksenia Sdobnikova win the IWC 2002 after final round in Quebec, won by Ines Papert and Dimitri Bytchkov.
The third Ice World Cup came to a close in Quebec, Canada, last weekend. This fourth decisive round held a final surprise in store: Dimitri Bytchkovs victory in Quebec drew him first equal with the provisional leader Harald Berger. The two now share the mens IWC 2002 title, while Ksenia Sdobnikova won the womens title within a whisker, just four points ahead of her main rival and Quebec winner Ines Papert. Dimitri Bytchkov topped out on two of the three routes to steer clear of Evgeny Krivosheitsev and his team-mate Alexei Tomilov, second and third respectively. Bytchkovs 100 points catapult him from fifth to first place, joint equal with the Berger who placed ninth in Quebec. The Frenchman Daniel Dulac, winner in both Kirov and Valle di Daone, failed to qualify for the Final and placed 17th, securing 3rd place in the 2002 ranking. The remaining eight finalists were Mathias Schiestel (4t), Thomas Steinbrugger (5 th), Aljaz Anderle (6 th), Stéphane Husson (7 th) and François Lombard (8th). Will Gadd failed to qualify for the final but finished 5th overall, immediately Stéphane Husson, fourth. In the womens event Ines Papert produced the only top in the Final to secure her second victory in the 2002 season, ahead of Abby Watkins and Stephanie Maureau, second and third respectively. Kirsten Buchmann placed fourth to finish off third in 2002, while Ksenia Sdobnikov, placed fifth to, only just, keep control of the leader board. Anna Torretta placed sixth, Ildi Kiss seventh, Mi-sun Go eight and Caroline Ware ninth. Results men Quebec
