Bouldering World Cup 2016, sixth and penultimate stage in Vail
After a three-week break, the sixth and penultimate round of the Bouldering World Cup 2016 kicked off in Vail, Colorado yesterday. While the race for overall victory in the men's event is still wide open and is above all a battle between Tomoa Narasaki, Kokoro Fujii and Alexey Rubtsov, Britain's Shauna Coxsey is tipped hot favorite to win the overall women's title. Thanks to four golds this season her comfortable 118 point lead over closest rival Miho Nonaka means she is now poised to win her first-ever World Cup title one stage ahead of schedule, but the sweltering heat and the altitude have compounded to the already difficult qualifiers, meaning that nothing can be taken for granted. Competition will no doubt be fierce, with strong performances expected in particular from the home athletes, such as Alex Puccio, Megan Mascarenas, Nathanial Coleman and Daniel Woods to name just four of the top US athletes.
Live streaming of the semis and finals takes place today at 18:00 Central European Time and 0:30 on Sunday night respectively.
