Yannick Flohé powers up Return of the Dreamtime, new 8C+ at Cresciano
Germany's Yannick Flohé has made a significant addition to one of the most famous boulders of all, the legendary Dreamtime bloc at Cresciano in Switzerland, with his first ascent of Return of the Dreamtime.
The new problem, or old project depending on which way you look at it, starts up Fred Nicole's 2000 testpiece Dreamtime, but instead of continuing leftwards after the dyno it continues straight up to join the crux of the 8B Somnolence. Flohé explained this is "a big move on slopers that turned out to be quite hard coming from the ground with sweaty skin and pumped forearms."
Writing to planetmountain after his ascent, the 23-year-old explained that he had tried the project sporadically since his fast Dreamtime repeat in 2020, but needed just two sessions this January. He added "It's a great feeling to add this, especially since it's my first first ascent and, to cap it all, on such a cool boulder!"
Flohé has suggested the grade of 8C+ but, regardless of the grade, given its location this will prove a highly popular bloc for the very best who apart from Dreamtime and the aforementioned Somnolence, can also dabble on Giuliano Cameroni's 2019 addition REM.
In the last 12 months Flohé has upped his game significantly with standout repeats including the 8C+ Off the Wagon Sit in Val Bavona and, only last week, Ephyra at Chironico. In 2022 he won the Brixen stage of the Boulder World Cup, while in 2019 he won bronze at the Bouldering World Championship at Hachioji, Japan.
