Usobiaga on-sights 8b+, Fischhuber flashes 8c
Patxi Usobiaga on-sights “La Dita del Guerriero ” 8b+, Covolo and “Jurassic” 8b+ at nearby Erto, Italy, while Kilian Fischhuber flashes “Tai chi” 8c at the Lorünser Steinwand, Austria.
After his false start in the Difficulty World Cup two weeks ago, Patxi Usobiaga set the record straight by making a series of hard on-sights in Italy. On 28 April the Spaniard on-sighted La Dita del Guerriero 8b+ at Covolo, while three days later he climbed the steeply overhanging Jurassic at nearby Erto. Same grade, same style. Different grade, different style. On 23 April Austrian Kilian Fischhuber, current leader of the Bouldering WC, flashed Tai chi at the Lorünser Steinwand, Austria. Originally graded 8b+ by first ascentionist Beat Kammerlander, the intense 8m route was subsequently upgraded by Bernd Zangerl after a hold broke. Gerhard Hörhager and Fred Nicole have both redpointed the route since the hold broke and this could well be the worlds first 8c flash. With a rapidly increasing number of climbers contending for the dream 8c on-sight, surely fame and glory is just around the corner
