When things run smoothly, they seem easy. But as is often the case, appearances can be deceptive and there’s absolutely nothing easy on this particular problem. Italy's Niccolò Ceria is seen cruising his way up not any old boulder, but Voyager, the smooth prow at Burbage North that had resisted all assaults ever since Ben Moon climbed it back in 2006.

The first repeat by Ceria, on a whirlwind trip to the Peak District gritstone from his home in Northern Italy, is clear demonstration of his class and also that of Moon who, at the time of the first ascent of his hardest problem ever, was 40 years old.

Talking about difficult boulder problems: according to Elite UK Bouldering, there are circa twenty 8B+ in the UK, and only three 8C's: Walk Away, Il Pirata and Shadow Play. All three were climbed by John Gaskins in his heyday, between 2003 and 2004. And all three are unrepeated.
