Jorg Verhoeven 8c flash
On 28 November Jorg Verhoeven from Holland completed his first 8c flash - Korrida at Misja Pec, Slovenia.
Jorg Verhoeven from Holland reports of his first 8c flash - Korrida at Misja Pec, Slovenia. Jorg belayed Norwegian Magnus Midtboe on the 30m route, messing up the sequence a bit as he admits but nevertheless sending the route first go. 21 year old Verhoeven placed 6th overall in the Lead World Cup 2006 and is definitely one of the strongest in the competition circuit at the moment. His best results so far have been second place in Qinghai Province and second in the Rock Master 2006 and, impressively, he also qualified for all nine finals he competed in this year. But Verhoeven is not just a competition climber: outdoors he had previously flashed up to 8b+/c (Sogni di Gloria at Erto) and redpointed up to 9a (Sanski par extension, Misja pec). For the record, 8c was first flashed by Kilian Fischhuber in April 2004 when he sent Tai chi at the Lorünser Steinwand, Austria, and 8c was first on-sighted in October the same year when Yuji Hirayama on-sighted White Zombi at the Baltzola Cave, Spain. All these are extraordinary competition climbers - it just goes to show that, with more time on their hands, competition climbers could move current difficulty levels into a competely different realm... |
