El Capitan The Nose speed record video of Gobright & Reynolds
"Mike, I think they just climbed three pitches in the time it took us to drink half our coffee." These words were uttered by an understandably startled and inspired Remy Franklin who, at 7:30 in the morning on 21 October 2017, was on the Dolt Tower on The Nose together with his climbing partner Michael Swartz. The two had just woken up after a night on the wall when, all of a sudden, out of the immense void came Brad Gobright and then, circa 10 minutes later, Jim Reynolds.
Gobright and Reynolds were racing upwards in an attempt to break the speed record on The Nose and this footage documents not only the startling speed with which the two progress upwards, but also the enormous risks they take, simul-climbing and placing very little protection indeed… It goes without saying: this shouldn’t be copied under any circumstances.
