During the last two years the region of Istria in Croatia has attracted more and more climbers due the advent of new sports crags, in particular around the town Buzet. Four larger areas (Kompanj, Sopot, Istarske toplice and Buzetski kanjon) and a few smaller crags currently offer more than 350 perfectly bolted routes of all grades and styles.

One of the biggest areas is Buzetski kanjon (Buzet canyon) comprised of five different sectors. Orientation varies from one sector to the next meaning that climbing is possible throughout the whole year. In winter Zimski offers 22 great climbs from 6a - 8a up slabs and overhangs. The sectors Đoser and Pengari are interesting in winter, spring and autumn Đoser receives the morning sun and offers 19 routes from 6a to 8a+, mainly up vertical slabs. Pengari receives the sun a little later on and with 18 stamina climbs from 6a to 8a+ is very popular. The Befana sector faces north and is ideal therefore in summer: 26 routes from 6b to 8b+, with most 7a or harder. A further sector, Sektor Slap, offers a selection of harder routes and is still being developed.
