Rain all day long, outside temperature 6°C... certainly not the best conditions to try a project. But if you haven't got much time and, above all, if you're really motivated, then there's no stopping you: you simply have to get out and climb.

This is exactly what Alexander Megos thought last Wednesday, and as a result the indomitable German made his way to the Venushügel crag in northern Frankenjura where he made the first ascent of Sonic Kaboom. Megos had tried the line before his recent trip to Kalymnos but conditions that day were simply too hot, meaning that he couldn't even do one of the moves, but not he's come up trumps. The route is graded 9a and bodes well for his imminent trip to the USA, probably to Red Rocks and also to Bishop where, in 2013, he flashed the Font 8B boulder problem Blood Meridian.
