Greg Boswell and Adam Russell have got the Scottish winter climbing off to a blazing start with the first ascent of Tomahawk Crack (VIII,9) on the Sioux Wall area on Number Three Gully Buttress on Ben Nevis. After sharing the first pitch with Sioux Wall, Tomahawk Crack takes a direct, steep line up a series of thin, poorly protected cracks for a further two pitches, before sharing the final pitch of Apache.

Simon Richardson of Scottishwinter.com explains the importance of this new climb: "this is a very impressive route taking a futuristic line up one of the prime areas of winter real estate on Britain’s highest mountain. Furthermore it was climbed on sight at the first attempt and does not follow an existing summer line."
