Mongolfiera in Val di Mello: the video of Pana
300 meters split into 9 pitches, of which two are 8b. This, in extreme synthesis, is Pana, the new rock climb first ascended and freed by Simone Pedeferri and Daniele Bianchi up the large Mongolfiera (hot air balloon) crag in Val Masino, Northern Italy. One could argue that these numbers are merely the “details” of a greater whole. That experience which perhaps reveals itself through the brushstrokes of Pedeferri the artist, through the visionary electric bass strum by Bianchi, and plenty of climbing. The result is this video, directed by Camilla Ceretti, which although it doesn’t explain everything (such as Bianchi’s tattoos or where Pedeferri’s thoughts float to), it certainly gives a good idea of their journey up Piana and into the heart and stone of Val Masino.
