Martjin Seuren perishes on Rochefort ridge

"Dear Friends, I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of my colleague Martjin Seuren that happened yesterday Wednesday, July 22nd after a fall on Rochefortgrat. He would have been the first Dutchman to climb all the 82 Four-Thousand peaks in the Alps. I want to express my deepest condolences to Martjin’s family and friends. Out of consideration for the family I won’t add further comment on this tragic event and I ask you all to respect this as well. Ueli"
Martjin Seuren, born in 1983, had lived in Bern for various years. He was only the second Dutchman to have been admitted to the difficult Swiss Mountain Guides training scheme, and with this ascent he would have crowned his dream of climbing all 82 4000m summits in the Alps. His death is a great loss for Dutch mountaineering. Following the tragic accident, an online memorial has been set up.
Ueli Steck had been attempting hs #82summits project in which he hopes to climb all 82 4000ers in 80 days. On 19/07/2015 Steck still had to climb 27 peaks to complete the tour.
