From 21 to 30 May 2021 the two Czech mountaineers Márek Holeček and Radoslav Groh established a new route up the West Face of Baruntse (7129m) in Nepal. Called Heavenly Trap, this runs to the left of the Russian route established in 1995 by Valery Pershin, Yevgeny Vinogradsky and Salavat Khabibullin during an expedition led by Sergey Efimov. Here's the story of the first ascent, which after enduring 10 days at altitude ended with a helicopter lift back to civilisation.
