On Saturday 29 July the Brasilian Waldemar Niclevicz and the Italians Abele Blanc and Marco Camandona successfully reached the summit of K2 (8611m). After enduring almost two months of bad weather the trio summited via the Abruzzi Spur. This was the route chosen by the Italian expedition led by Ardito Desio which, on 31 July 1954, first reached the summit of K2. The three mountaineers have safely descended to Base Camp and shall return to Italy next week. More information about their ascent, organised by Focus World Expeditions, will be available shortly. |
