Missing since July 1st 2011
Xavier Murillo was in the area Cordillera Blanca and took off from Caraz in direction of Huaraz. Together with other pilots Xavier was participating in a event in preparation for a future competition. With more than 25 years of experience Murillo was equiped with a cell phone and a radio but he has been unreachable. The area is extensive with high alpine terrain and strong aerologic conditions. Family, friends, the Paragliding World Cup staff and the French Embassy in Peru are actively involved in the organisation of the research.

5 days and 5 nights alone in the mountains.
The alert was given Saturday by the other pilots who were flying in the area and search and rescue team have been looking for him since. Furthermore, local and experienced pilots are on site to coordinate the search. On Monday 4th July after the weather cleared up a first air research lasting 90 minutes was carried out but to no avail. On Tuesday 5 July another 5-hour air search was performend and was halted by bad conditions. Again, no trace of Xavier was found. After 5 days and 5 nights on his own it is now becoming more and more urgent to launch a massive search today, Wednesday 6th of July in the hope of finding him.

Funds are needed to help finance the search and rescue operations
Xavier's instantly available 10,000 euro insurance coverage has been already spent. Immediatly available funds are needed to finance aircraft and on July 5 the Paragliding World Cup Association established a Paypalaccount for financial support. A single flight costs more that 15,000 euros. For donations and the freshest news about the research: www.paraglidingworldcup.org/

There is still hope
When not travelling the world's paragliding spots, Xavier resides in Saint Hilaire du Touvet, France where he actively participates in the Coupe Icare. All his friends from the village are working hard to spread the news and find the necessary financial ressources to conduct the maximum research effort today. Organising the search in the high mountains of Peru is not easy and all help is welcome. A Facebook page has also been created to track all information that is being published about the search.
