The Rassemblement International des Glaciairistes du Fournel will celebrate its 10th anniversary from the 3rd to the 9th of January 2000. This international gathering of ice climbers attracted almost 500 participants from 28 different nations in 1999, and this years meeting could well prove even more popular: it has been extended from the usual short weekend to an entire week, and the French Alpine Club will, for the first time, award its prestigious Piolet d'Or during the event.
Held in the French Parc National des Ecrins, one of the major ice climbing centers in Europe, this gathering has consistently proven to be an important meeting point for exchanging new ideas and sharing experiences.
The programme includes, amongst others, a shuttle bus service to ferry climbers and spectators to the icefalls, gear hire and testing, and audiovisuals and evening entertainment in Fournel.
