Snowleopard Ski Project: towards the first Italian Snowleopard

Just a few days to go before the departure for the trip that should conclude the Snowleopard project started by Cala Cimenti in the summer of 2013.
14449 Then the intent of the mountaineer was to climb in just two months the five highest mountains in the territory that was once the Soviet Union, the only peaks to exceed 7,000 metres. The attempt succeeded in part, he reached the summit of Pik Lenin, Khan Tengri and Pik Korjenekaya and missed the top of Pobeda and Communism Pik by a whisker. Last year the Snowleopard project was enhanced when the mountaineer scaled the top of Pobeda on 13 August.

On 22 July 2015 the plane will take off that will bring the mountaineer to Tajikistan, on the Moskvina glacier, in sight of the imposing Communism Pik. This huge mountain of 7,495m, also called Pik Ismail Somoni, represents the latest effort by Cala to achieve the Snowleopard honour which is awarded by the Russian mountaineering federation to whoever climbs all five of these peaks over 7,000m. This award, little known in the West but much coveted and prestigious in the countries of Asia and Eastern Europe, would be not only the first given to an Italian but, as Cala says: "the beautiful end of a long journey, an intense life experience that has given me so much and that cost me so much effort and sacrifice and it is right that it finishes this year to prevent it from becoming an obsession."

The dates of the last act will be:
- 22 July: departure from Italy to Dushambe, capital of Tajikistan
- 25 July: arrival by helicopter at base camp of Communism Pik on the Moskvina glacier at about 4,000m
- from 26 July: 10 days of acclimatization and setting up high camps
- from 5 August onwards: first attempts to climb to the top.

The expedition will end without fail on 22 August 2015, the single day planned for the return from base camp.

In parallel with the preparations for the expedition, filming the video "The Italian Snowleopard" has already started. Designed and developed by Pillow Lab and produced in collaboration with Ferrino andCébé, the short documentary will recount the last act of this adventure.
