On Saturday 27 July 2012 Jospeh Mayerl, the legendary alpinist from Tyrol, Austria, died aged 75 which climbing in the Lienzer dolomites.

Mayan Smith-Gobat, together with David Falt, has made the third free ascent of Donnafugata on Torre Trieste, Civetta, dolomites. 750m, 8a in a ground-up, in a 32 hour single push with no bivy gear. Falt provides the report.

On 14/05/2012 Christoph Hainz and Simon Kehrer made the first free ascent of Gratta e Vinci (7b, 420m), a new rock climb they established in 2011 up the SW Face of Sas dai Tamersc, Fanis, dolomites.

In May Hansjörg Auer from Austria on-sighted the famous route Strawberries first ascended by Ron Fawcett in 1980 at Tremadog in Wales. In more than 30 years this trad climb has only been on-sighted by Stefan Glowacz and Jorg Verhoeven.

On 24 March 2012 Maurizio "Manolo" Zanolla made the first ascent of Roby Present (35m, proposed grade 8c+/9a) in Val Noana (Pale di San Martino, dolomites). Established by Manolo, the route is dedicated to his friend Roberto Bassi.
