Freeride Challenge Punta Nera
Skiing and climbing in the Dolomites? Cortina d'Ampezzo is historically one of the cradles of these sports and not by chance ever since 2010 the Faloria slopes have been the scene of the Freeride Challenge Punta Nera, an event that involves all aspects of mountain sports and mountain culture. The event - scheduled to take place from 4 - 6 April - includes ski mountaineering, bouldering and freeride skiing and is open to all, from professional athletes to amateurs of all ages.

The program is packed with a series of events and it all begins on Thursday 4 April with the Safe Day, organised by the various Mountain rescue services who at the Faloria cable car station will explain the latest rescue techniques. The night ski mountaineering competition kicks off in the evening and this acts as the first of three stages of the second Vertical Combined Marco da Pozzo - ski mountaineering, freeride and bouldering - named after the unforgettable alpinist, mountain guide and Cortina Scoiattolo Marco Da Pozzo.

As for the "combined" event, after Thursday night's ski mountaineering competition, Friday continues with the bouldering comp in the centre of Cortina, followed on Saturday by the event highlight, the descent from the summit of Punta Nera during which riders ski and jump off cliff to win trophy. While each discipline provides a separate ranking, those with the best results in each three disciplines will win the Vertical Combined Marco Da Pozzo.

The event is open to all. Pre-registration is possible on www.freeridepuntanera.com
