Matterhorn Cervino 150, Italian Air Force aerobatic team lift off celebrations

The tribute provided by the Italian Air Force aerobatic team marks the official start at Breuil-Cervinia Valtournenche to the great celebrations that, from 10 - 19 July 2015, the Region of Valle d'Aosta and the Municipality of Valtournenche are dedicating to the Matterhorn to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the historic first two ascents of the Gran Becca.

The start to the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the first two ascents of the Matterhorn will certainly be an unforgettable moment, one of those you won’t forget. Today the Frecce Tricolori - the Italian Air Force aerobatic team - and the Matterhorn will be the true, absolutely exceptional stars of this 10-day celebration that the Aosta Valley and Valtournenche are dedicating to Gran Becca - as the Matterhorn is know locally - to the mountain of all mountains and to all the legendary alpinists of this “conquest” era. Watching the air show of the Frecce Tricolori, that whizz past the mountain that has become the symbol of the Alps and of all the world’s mountains, is no doubt going to be a truly special and unique event. A worthy start for a program that is rich with events that cannot be missed.

Also today, at 22:00, the Matterhorn will light up with a thousands lights to create a fairy tale atmosphere that will highlight the charm and beauty of this great pyramid. This magic will be repeated until 19 July. Furthermore, daily hikes and climbs with the Cervino Mountain Guides will begin today; a series of Open Days dedicated to mountain lovers and families to learn and above all to "experience" the Matterhorn.

Tomorrow, July 11, the exhibition “Creste e pareti del Cervino. 150 anni di storia alpinistica 1865-2015.” will be inaugurated at the museum Guide del Cervino di Breuil - Cervinia. Curated by Alessandro Gogna and Alessandra Raggio to pay homage to this anniversary and to remember another important event: the birth of the Cervino Mountain Guides.

The festivities will continue with a rich series of other events: mountaineering events, outdoor activities, walking and trekking, theater, music and dance, films and literature that will culminate on Friday, July 17 at the Centro Congressi Billia in Saint-Vincent with "Tales of the Matterhon" a great evening event hosted by Kay Rush that will feature the exceptional alpinists Reinhold Messner, Hervé Barmasse, Catherine Destivelle and Simon Anthamatten.

Friday, July 10. The celebrations begin on the weekend preceding the anniversary, within the program of the Festival Torino e le Alpi. The festivities begin in grand style, with the exhibition of the Frecce Tricolori, the Italian Air Force aerobatic team that will pay homage to the Matterhorn, the mountain of the Italians. During the day: Open Day with the Mountain Guides (trekking approach to mountaineering; promotional prices, with three different routes and a course, until 19 July).
