Pitztal Salomon Ice Adventure 14 -16 January 2000 — the program
The first stage in the first ever Ice Climbing World Cup circuit will take place in Pilztal, Austria on the 14 -16 January 2000.
The Ice Climbing World Cup 2000 will get off to a late start with the Salomon Ice Adventure on the 14th -16th of January. After the cancellation of the first event in Chamonix, this competition in Pilztal, Austria is now the first in the newly established World Cup series.
Following in the wake of last year's success, this second Salomon Ice Adventure will be held on two 30m towers constructed for the event in the center of Mandarfen, Tirol. Some of the best ice climbers in the world have enlisted for the competition, which will take place alongside side events such as show climbing, speed climbing and music.
This initial event in the World Cup series will be first time the new World Cup rules will be applied. Established by the Ice Climbing World Cup committee, some of these have raised more than a few eyebrows, above all the rule banning the use of wrist loops.
The next event in the World Cup circuit will be held in Courchevel, France (23-25 January), followed by Cortina d'Ampezzo (27-30 January) where this seasons only Ice-Boulder event will be staged. This is then followed by Kirov, Russia (3-5 March) before concluding in Are, Sweden (10-12 March).
