The fifth stage of the World Cup 2004 took place in Marbella, Spain last weekend and was won by Tomas Mrazec and Muriel Sarkany. The Belgian had wisely chosen to miss out on the Rock Master two weeks ago in preparation for this competition, and she now extends her lead to 83 points over closest rival Angela Eiter, who placed seventh. Martina Cufar from Slovenia finally lived up to her expectations and placed second, while Barbara Bacher continued to keep the Austrian dream team in the top three by placing third. The men's event mirrored the women's: Mrazec's long standing and closest rival Alexandre Chabot placed only eighth, resulting in a massive 83 point gap between the two title contenders. Gerome Pouvreau from France produced an outstanding performance and placed second, beating Patxi Usobiaga into third place. Newcomers Klemen Becan, Mikael Fuselier and Juraj Repcik broke the hegemony and placed fourth to sixth respectively, while former World Champion Bernadino Lagni placed seventh. Next stage China, in search of the market for the next millenium!
