Kilian Jornet Burgada and Elizabeth Hawker win the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc
The ninth edition of the The North Face Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc was won by Kilian Jornet Burgada from Spain and Elizabeth Hawker.

Three highly important trail running competitions took place last weekend at the foot of the Mont Blanc, namely the Sur les Traces des Ducs de Savoie, the Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix and the The North Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc. 5300 runners from 58 different countries participated in these gruelling mountain marathons and the queen even, the difficult Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, was won for the third time by Kilian Jornet Burgada from Spain and, for a record-breaking fourth time by Elizabeth Hawker from Great Britain who clocked in at an amazing 25:02:00 which netted her 13th overall.
The 6700m altitude gain stretched out over 170km began was postponed for 5 hours and modified due to the bad weather and completed by the Spanish ace (Skyrunning World Champion 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010, Ski mountaineering World Champion 2011, winner of the Mezzalama 2011, winner of the Pierra Menta 2008, 2010, 2011...) in 20 hours and 36 minutes, while his teammate Iker Carrera finished second 8 minutes later and ten minutes faster than 3rd placed Frenchamn Sebastien Chaigneau.
In the women's event Elizabeth Hawker dominated right from the outset and despite sever hip pain, the Britain won poker, after her victories in 2010, 2008 and 2005. Two hours later Darcy Africa from Spain ran into second place, followed by Darcy Africa from the USA.
The next trail running event is the Tor des Geants in Valle d'Aosta, Italy, from 11 - 18 September.
