The Russian Dmitry Bychkov and the German Ines Papert won the first stage of the Ice World Cup 2003 in Pitztal, Austria, on Saturday 11/01/02. Last year's joint winner Harald Berger placed second, ahead of Simon Anthamatten from Switzerland, third. In the women's event Kirsten Buchmann placed second, ahead of Ksenia Sdobnikova.

All attention now shifts to Valle Daone, with the only ice boulder stage in the entire World Cup and, in unison, the ice climbing meet Kayland Meeting Pareti di Cristallo. Free beginner's courses are on offer with the local Mountain Guides to find out all about safety on ice.
