Fiera di Primiero Bouldering World Cup

The third round of the Bouldering World Cup 2005 takes place in Italy's Fiera di Pimiero today and tomorrow. The importance of this event should not be underestimated, since it is is the penultimate round of the circuit and the final competition prior to the World Championship in Munich at the start of July. It should prove a thrilling watch, especially since over 90 athletes have signed up for the event. Starting with none other Christian Core, defending World Champion and second in the world cup 2005 ranking: the Italian is obviously gunning for his fourth overall World Cup victory, but Jérôme Meyer leads by 34 points and will attempt to keep this gap as wide as possible. Third placed Kilian Fischhuber will no doubt attempt to repeat his winning performance here last year, but there are many, almost too many, athletes who could all qualify for winning positions: Rakhmetov, Dulac, Müller, Croxall, Samyn, Laurence and Gadioz, Calibani... the list is a long one. Things are slightly more certain in the women's event, where the French champion Sandrine Levet remains on top, despite the fact that she's the only athlete who is competing in both the Bouldering and lead disciplines. What she can achieve is unknown even to her, one thing is for certain though: her 4 points from teammate Abgrall and 6 points from Olga Bibik constitute a whisker-thin lead.
