Crespi, Chabot and Eiter rock Marbella
Flavio Crespi, Alexandre Chabot and Angela Eiter win the sixth stage of the World Cup Lead 2005 in Marbella, Spain.
Spanish smiles, Spanish frowns. The smiles belong to Flavio Crespi and Alexandre Chabot (joint first equal) and Angela Eiter who, just to play things safe, won this World Cup in Marbella, too. Crespi is now solidly in the lead for the overall 2005 title, as is Eiter who has nothing to worry about. Unlike the organisation and route setting in Marbella, seeing the record number of tops (80) that occurred in the various stages of the competition. Other than too many tops though the sixth stage of the World Cup Lead 2005 will be remembered for its two Superfinals. The first was between the only two athletes to top out in the Final, Angela Eiter from Austria and Caroline Ciavaldini from France, while the second was between Flavio Crespi and Alexandre Chabot. Both touched the same hold close to the top in the Final, and in the challenging Superfinal both once again fell at exactly the same point. Incredible!? Maja Vidmar from Slovenia placed third, as did Ramón Julián. We'll conclude with an interesting anecdote about the competition published on www.desnivel.es. According to the Spanish magazine Alexandre Chabot competed externally from the French Squad. The reason: Chabot's refusal to wear the Squad's official T-shirt with its sponsor logos... Football time for climbing? However things may be Alexandre, competing for himself or for the French squad, produced his second consecutive victory after Chamonix in July. The next World Cup will take place in Shanghai on 22-23 October.
