Chamonix, World Cup Lead & Speed
The first stage of the Lead World Cup 2011 started in Chamonix this morning, along with the Speed event.

Chamonix Lead and Speed World Cup 2011
It's superfluous to say that for all the athletes competing in France today, this is the first and only true test before the IFSC World Championship which kicks off in Arco, Italy, next week, or more precisely,on Wednesday 20 July for the Lead and Friday 22 July for the Speed. And it's just as superfluous to remind everyone that the Italian event will begin in earnest this Friday with the bouldering event and then continue early next week with the first-ever Paraclimbing World Championship.
last season the Lead World Cup was won lifted by Ramón Julian Puigblanque from Spain and Jain Kim from Korea, unsurprisingly the same two who won the pre-World Championship Rock Master event in Arco last year. After the start in France today and the unmissable Championship in Arco, the athletes will compete in Belgium, USA, Jordan and Slovenia before homing in on Spain at the end of November.
In the meantime, let's watch the "warm-up" in Chamonix which is also transmitted live on the ifsc.tv channel. And then, from Friday onwards, all eyes will be focused on the great World Championship in Arco.
