Valtellina Orobie
All the best had lined up for the start of the 24th Valtellina Orobie. 280 athletes battled it out in an intense competition, won in the end by Laetitia Roux from France and Florent Troillet from Switzerland. Expectations had been high for an excellent performance by Catalan phenominum Kiljan Jornet, but as things turned out Jornet suffered one of those classic off days. French champion Laetitia Roux on the other hand took no chances and won by a large margin.

The second stage of the World Cup was marked therefore by foreign victories, while host country Italy left its mark with the junior squads trained by Emanuel Conta, which managed to place the highly talented Matteo Eydallin 2nd, Lorenzo Holzknecht 3rd and Roberta Pedranzini 3rd.

Manfred Reichegger placed 4th and Dennis Trento 6th, while champion skier Dennis Brunod, suffering from a cold, limited damages by placing 12th. Roberta Pedranzini duelled with the other "terrible women" in the international ski mountaineering circuit and placed 3rd, just behind Miro Mireia from Spain. Hundreds of spectators watched the event unfold and cheered every single competitor on.
