Val Gelada, new Brenta Dolomites rock climb by Roberto Conti and Gabriele Tonelli
On Sasso Alto in Val Gelada, Brenta Dolomites, Roberto Conti and Gabriele Tonelli have made the first ascent of Dolomiti Super Ski-Fo (7b (A0) 7a ob, 170m).
The highly controversial name Dolomiti Super Ski-Fo (a play on words, in Italian schifo means disgusting, Ed.) was chosen to launch an appeal against what has become a perplexing business in the Dolomites. Beautiful Val Geleda, with its secluded corners and extraordinarily savageness, amazes for its incredible rock sculptures, its green alpine meadows and chamois that race like mad up the gullies. However, as you look towards the Presanella the scenery changes. The forests have been chopped clean with corridors for the lifts, the slopes and valleys are littered with huge pylons, masts, ski-lifts, chairlifts, cable cars… if you listen carefully you can hear the machines at nearby Grostè work as they wave their mechanical shovel. This is merely the tip of the iceberg compared to the super lifts at Passo Sella, Pordoi etc. and is wholly unacceptable to those who would like to see mountain and nature unspolit. With this name, which will probably bother many, we hope to make those stop and think who probably stopped reading this introduction after the second sentence and who cannot wait for winter to arrive to spend € 50 on the ski pass and ski down the fabulously groomed pistes.
