Two new rock climbs in Fanis (Dolomites) by Simon Kehrer, Marta Willeit, Hubert Eisendle

In November, South Tyrolean mountain guide Simon Kehrer made the first ascent of two new multipitch climbs in the Fanes group of the Dolomites, Italy: 'Lastun de Mareo' on Muntejela de Senes / Monte Sella di Sennes with Marta Willeit and 'Via dla Surité' on Piz Parom with Hubert Eisendle.

Taking advantage of the last warm days of November, we established two climbs on very beautiful rock in phenomenal settings. Even though we were at altitude, it was wonderful, because there was a thermal inversion.

The first route is located on the south pillar of Muntejela de Senes, a truly spectacular location. To reach the start you need to make 6 abseils, preferably with a 60m rope, then you climb back up. It is a very particular route, first ascended on November 4th with my wife Marta Willeit. To the right of the route there's a crack and you could almost climb the entire route with just cams, but nevertheless we decided to equip the route with about fifteen bolts along the pitches, while all the belays are bolted.

The second route, established the following day with my colleague Hubert Eisendle, is located in another hidden corner of the Dolomites, on the sunny south face of Piz Parom. It is thanks to the somewhat challenging approach that the route gets its name, Via dla Surité, which translated from Ladin means: The route of solitude. Once again the route was climbed in our usual style, ie some bolts along the pitches where it's not possible to add gear, and stainless steel bolts at the belays.

You have to earn both routes with their long approaches but, as I said, the environments are phenomenal.
