"Tradannot: bilan super positif" is the headline of the report on the official website after the international trad climbing meeting which took place at the end of last April at the French crag Annot. The video depicts a series of beautiful cracks at the sandstone crag which already hosts over 160 trad climbs and which continues to offer new routes.
Annot
Annot is a small medieval town less than an hour from Nice in the Haute Provence Alps. It's exceptional climbing allows for all year climbing, even in winter, on the highest sandstone outcrop in Europe.
Climbers turned their attention to this crag a mere 15 years ago, attracted by this very particular yellow-orange limestone which in many ways resembles pressed sand. Circa 150 sport climbs from 4b to 8c were established, and this was followed by countless boulder problems littered across the forest which now attracts boulderers from all over Europe. 7 years ago the big news: the climbers discovered a series of fantastic cracks, pure logical lines which resembled climbing in Utah, ideal for trad climbing with nuts and camming devices. After having climbed the most obvious cracks the climbers turned their attention to the vertical slabs and overhangs, sparsely protected with gear in the odd pockets... In just 7 years, thanks to a highly motivated bunch of locals which include Lionel Catsoyannis and Antoine Barbier, the outcrop now also hosts over 160 trad climbs, plus 4 multi-pitch trad routes.
