Six years after having established the 300m Dalla Funivia, German rock climbers Alexandra Schweikart and Christopher Igel have now added a difficult new multi-pitch to Switzerland’s Val Bavona.

Located at the end of the valley and clearly visibile from the cable car that leads from San Carlo Bavona up to Robièi, Space Force was established ground-up over a period of two years and is protected with a mixture of both trad and bolts.

The 11-pitch line  features a huge, almost 50° roof on pitch 3 that goes at 8a, followed by an energy-sapping 38m technical 8a+ mini corner on pitch 6. after which difficulties diminish considerably.

The first free ascent was carried out on the 9th of November, with both climbers leading the crux pitches before continuing by swinging leads. The duo summited at 10:00pm after haivng climbed for 11 hours.
