Piotr Schab fires Fight or Flight 9b at Oliana
Poland’s Piotr Schab is increasingly transforming into one of the leading climbers of the new generation. After having sent seven 9a+, Schab has now upped the ante by sending his first 9b. Schab has done so on what is transforming into the most popular reference point for this grade: Fight or Flight at Oliana in Spain.
Freed by Chris Sharma in 2011, the climb was repeated two years later by Adam Ondra and in the meantime it has become the first 9b for the likes of Jakob Schubert (2015), Sachi Amma (2015) and Matty Hong (2018).
Schab invested 15 days in 2018 but, after having failed to link the route in two parts, he decided to train specifically for it all winter. This spring he returned and sent the line after another 7 days of effort. He stated "The try was unique, I took risks and felt confident the whole way up, went all in at the dyno and suddenly it was over. So many years of training & dreaming closed in such a short period of time."
