Pamela Shanti Pack climbing 'Am I Evil?'
Pamela Shanti Pack is well-known for being one of the world’s foremost offwidth climbers, a type of climbing she describes as being "totally different from other styles of climbing." The American confesses to being "obsessed with first ascents" and much time is spent scouting the Moab desert for possible new lines, all the while knowing full-well that her routes might be repeated very rarely indeed.
The area still offers unlimited potential for exploration and it is on this red sandstone that she recently made the first ascent of Am I Evil?, a steep, overhanging and at times loose four-pitch outing that required inverted climbing, chicken winging, fist jams and whole series of hand stacks. And a technically brutal third pitch that involved bumping two enormous cams up the pitch to stop the rope from getting stuck in the roof below.
