Nadine Wallner picture-perfect on Prinzip Hoffnung at Bürs
Professional freeskier Nadine Wallner is not a household name to most rock climbers beyond Vorarlberg, the small mountainous region in western Austria that borders Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland. This may change soon as the double Freeride World Champion boasts a short and sweet ticklist of climbs that stuns for the sheer speed with which she has amassed her ascents.
The 29-year-old from Klösterle, Austria, started climbing a mere 4 years ago and after sending her first 8a - Grenzgänger at Voralpsee - in May 2018, she leapt through the grades and sent the adjacent 8b/+ Euphorie just a month later.
As if this wasn’t enough, Wallner has now successfully transitioned from bolts to nuts & friends and climbed Prinzip Hoffnung, the trad testpiece on the Bürser Platte established in 2009 by Beat Kammerlander gadeded 8b/8b+, E9-E10. Wallner’s is now the second female ascent of this huge slab, after close friend Barbara Zangerl edged her way past the tenuous moves in March 2014. Minor detail: this is one of Wallner’s first trad routes!
