Maja Vidmar climbs Attila Lunga 8c+

Two weeks ago Maja Vidmar from Slovenia proved her worth once again by redpointing Attila Lunga 8c+ at Baratro, an 8c+ freed by Matej Sova in the "ex-secret crag" on the outskirts of Trieste, Italy.

Success arrived a few days after having climbing the first section of the route - Attila - an 8c in its own right. In truth this step forward from 8c to 8c+ had been in the making for a while and it comes as no surprise that it was preceded by two other important climbs, Strelovod (8c) at Misja Pec (Slovenia) and her on-sight of Spartan wall 8b at Kalymnos in Greece.

With these ascents Vidmar is undoubtedly one of the strongest female climbers at present and probably one of the most likely to emulate the stellar difficulties reached by Spain's Josune Bereziartu - the Basque climber set female standards by climbing 8c+ in 2000 (Honky MIx), 9a in 2002 (Bain de Sang) and 9a/9a+ in 2005 with her ascent of Bimbaluna.

At present Vidmar is taking part in the Climbing World Championship in China, where she has decided to put herself to the test by participating not only in her preferred discipline, Lead, but also bouldering.
