Laura Rogora makes extraordinary 8c onsight at La Ramirole in Verdon

Laura Rogora has just completed her first trip to the Verdon Gorge in France, bringing home with her a quite extraordinary bounty, 'discovered' at the crag La Ramirole. In this never-ending overhanging labyrinth of twisting tufas, the 23-year-old Italian began her trip by sending the 8c+ Le flute e chantier on her fourth attempt, while the next day she used the beta given by her climbing partner Claudia Ghisolfi to flash the 8c Aggresif you want... As if that wasn't enough, she raised the bar one notch higher by onsighting the 8c Spanish caravan. Her redpoints of Aggressive dans le culte (8c) and La feu occulte (8b+) are almost non-news at this point.

Spanish caravan is Rogora's second 8c onsight after Ajo crudo in Cicera, Spain in 2023. This made her only the third woman to onsight 8c, after Janja Garnbret in 2021 and Chaehyun Seo in 2022.

A few weeks ago Rogora climbed the 9a+ Goldrake at Cornalba and her latest ascents in Provence confirm that she is currently enjoying an absolutely extraordinary run of form. Worldwide there are few - both women and men - who can boast 9a+ redpoints and 8c onsights. On rock, Rogora is up there as one of the strongest and most complete climbers of the moment.
