New Czech kid on the block. Young Jakub Konečný can look back on a stellar year, and in 2018 he literally exploded on the international scene with ten 9a’s and, just before New Year’s Eve, one 9a+, Catxasa at Santa Linya.

This climb up through the enormous Spanish cave freed by Chris Sharma in 2011 was famously first repeated by Ramon Julian Puigblanque in 2012 when the thermometer hit 39°C… 19-year-old Konečný sent the route in very different conditions after putting in just 5 days of effort, on the very last attempt of the day and also the last day of the year.

It is worth pointing out that Konečný placed sixth last September at the Lead World Championships 2018, behind the likes of Domen Škofic, Meichi Narasaki, Alexander Megos, Adam Ondra and Jakob Schubert.

Konečný thanks: Climbing Technology, Rafiki, Amuerte, Triop, Red Bull
