Eva Scroccaro and Tito Traversa, young Italians on the rise
There's no two ways about it: sport climbing in Italy is currently experiencing an important transformation in which the young climbers are... increasingly young. Better still, extremely young indeed. Circa three weeks have passed since we talked about Eva Scroccaro, the climber from Trieste who at Misja Pec in Slovenia managed to redpoint her first 8a, at a mere 12 years of age. Now at another crag close to home, the historic Napoleonica, Scroccaro has sent "Il Padrone Assoluto" in the sector Mani di Fatima. A great little eightaslasheightaplus which she sent after just a few sessions and placing all the quickdraws on her successful send.
Switching longitude completely and even crossing the Italian border briefly, last January young Tito Traversa sent his first 8b at Castillon in France "Je est un autre". The video of this ascent, filmed by Andrea Tosi of Mountain View Production, is now online and shows clearly that there is still ample room for improvement in the near future!
