There seems to be no stopping them and during these cold winter days the splendid news of exceptional problems keep trickling in on a daily basis. If it goes on like this, it'll be hard to keep up with it all...
Let's start this brief round-up of what's been going on in world of bouldering with Daniel Woods who made headline news at the start of the month with his Mirror Reality in the Rocky Mountain National Park. The American has now freed Mind to Motion at the nearby Elkland (also known as Nicky's boulders). A 35° overhanging bulge created "one of the coolest boulders I have done in a while" according to Woods who credits his friend Dave Graham for having discovered and cleaned the line, before adding the Graham's eye "for bouldering is truly one of the greatest out there and I am privileged to be able to learn from the master."
While in the theme of Graham and Woods: as we reported, at the end of 2011 Graham first ascended Memory is Parallax and this 8B+ has already been repeated twice, first by Woods and now by Matty Hong. Hong is relatively unknown in Europe but certainly an emerging talent to look out for, especially after his 6th place in the Lead World Cup in Colorado in 2011.
Another climber to look out for is Australian Chris Webb Parsons who has now managed to repeat Desperanza 8C, Daniel Woods' 2010 creation at Hueco Tanks. Webb Parsons almost sent the problem first go but then needed a couple of days to tick this massive power-endurance run.
We'll finish this brief overview with Sean McColl, undoubtedly on of the most complete athletes at the moment who at Fontainebleau in France sent Khéops Assis in a single day. Freed by Antoine Vandeputte, this is the Canadian's first 8B+ in a day and, in the light of all the problems mentioned above, it seems clear that bouldering still holds much more in store, and soon!
