Bindhammer, the latest from around Europe
Christian and Andreas Bindhammer repeat some Europe's hardest routes, including "Superplafond" 8c+, Volx and "Shangrila" 8c+, Frankenjura
The last time we heard from Christian Bindhammer was in January, after his repeat of The Big Mother at Erto, Italy. It seemed clear at the time that he was on form and looking forward to a great season, and his impressive list of ascents, published below, confirms just this. Christian sent us a brief comment about his fast ascent of the bouldery Raubritter 8c: On Sunday 3/6 I managed to quickly repeat Raubritter at Eldorado, Frankenjura. After Saturday's heavy rain I trained for 4 hours and had originally intended to rest on Sunday, so I went to the crag just to belay. There I decided to "check out" the holds and I realised that the moves were just right for me. Somehow I felt that I would be able to climb the route and my feeling didn't betray me as I managed to redpoint it next go." His brother Andreas, with ascents such as "L' Irreverance 8c (Orgon) and the second repeat of "Shangrila" 8c+ (Frankenjura), freed in '96 by Guido Köstermayer, has also proven to be on excellent form. All we can do now is wait, in trepidation, to hear from them at the first stage of the World Cup Difficulty that gets underway in Chamonix this weekend.. | ![]() Christian Bindhammer climbing in Spain.
