Adam Ondra sends Martin Krpan 9a!
13 year old Adam Ondra from the Czech Republic has redpointed Martin Krpan 9a at Misja Pec, Slovenia.
It seems as if current superlatives are beginning to look outdated and that we're urgently in need of something new. Why? Because last Saturday Adam Ondra managed to send Martin Krpan at Misja Pec, in Slovenia. So what's the big deal? Well, Martin Krpan is graded 9a and as such is one of the hardest routes at the crag and well beyond. And Adam is only 13... Perhaps you'll agree with us then that the future holds new horizons (and adjectives) in store hitherto unimagined But first things first. Adam had started to work the route just two weeks ago after his extremely fast redpoint (2 attempts!) of Strelovod, an 8c located on the overhanging right wing of the crag. Hot temperatures forced him to return home to the Czech Republic until last weekend to catch the right moment. His 11th try seized the day as Adam traversed rightwards across the four routes which in turn make up Martin Krpan. And to finish off in style Wonder Ondra travelled to Vipavska Bela the next day, where he on-sighted both Cerko 8b and Otrok Oslade 8a+. This is Adam's first 9a but something leads us to believe it probably won't be his last. And probably his fellow countryman Tomas Mrazek thinks this too; the reigning world champion, who repeated Martin Krpan in 2005, happens to be here with us at the moment and has confirmed that the grade is full-on... totally! What else can we add? Not much really, apart from saying that Adam was simply... superlative. |
